YOUTHS AND GOOD GOVERNANCE: THE FUTURE WE WANT

Thousands of youths from Cross River and its environs recently converged at Calabar International Convention Center(CICC). It was the 8th Career day, an annual event hosted by The Bridge Leadership Foundation. The event was beautifully packaged and the theme "Youths and good governance: the future we want" was just perfect for this very edition.
The event which held on 14th July 2018, had so many remarkable speakers. They were; Mr Tonye P. Cole, Mrs Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji, Mrs Victoria Ibezim-Ohaeri, Rt Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke, Prof Paul Nwulu, Mr Hamzat Lawal, Mr Chris Ngwodo, Dr Oyeins Frankland Briyai, OAP Tolulope Adeleru-Balogun and Mrs Emilia Asim Ita. As a participant who had an awesome experience, I'll share some of the things I learnt with pictures too.

NOTES:
* Every action has a consequence and the consequence has a price. You have to know if you are willing to pay the price for the consequence of your actions.
*Every leader understands that network is important. The size and quality of your network will determine the size and quality of your net worth.
*5 things I do everyday
1. I impact a life.
2. I influence the next generation.
3. I must be a solution, not a problem.
4. I pour myself out to die empty.
5. I remain humble.
                - Mr. Tonye Cole

CHANGE THESE MINDSETS
1. I am still young: Make your youthful exuberance work for you.
2. Self defeat
3. I need a fat salary
4. The greedy mind
5. Entitlement mentality
6. The pastor syndrome: some situations require action, not just prayers.
7. The urge to make early announcement
                 -Mrs Victoria Ibezim-Ohaeri

*Educate yourself about political issues and be involved with civil engagements.
               -Dr Paul Nwulu
* Find your space and run your race.
*Success is not sweet if you don't have a story.
*If the idea is good, people will be willing to invest.
*The person who says you can't is afraid that you will.
*Vote for candidates based on common sense, not tribe, religion or body language.
                - Mrs Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji
* Power is never given, power is taken.
               - Mr Hamzat Lawal
*In Nigeria, we compete instead of collaborating.
*We don't have to be in a competition with ourselves to move Nigeria forward.
                - Mr Chris Ngwodo
*Followers access us based on assets, cars and mountains we acquire. Access us by the basic needs we provide.
               - Rt Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke
*It is time for the youths to take up the challenge but in doing this, offer quality.
                 -Sen Liyel Imoke

THINK OF THIS

How good is a house if its not a home How good is a tree if it bears no fruits How good is a garden if it has no flowers How good is a clock if it cant tell the time How good is are friends if they cant care and share How good are eyes if they cant be used for sight How good are ears if they cant be used for hearing How good is a nose that cant be used for breathing How good are legs if they cant be used for locomotion How good is a mirror that cant reflect images How good is a phone that cant be used for calls How good is a heart that cant pump blood How good is a book that cant be read How good is a youth without a dream and How good if your life if you are not living for Christ Remember a life without Christ is a life in crisis written by Alice Asuquo

SEASONS

At morning The cock crew Announcing a new day Time to wake Time to learn Time to grow In a twinkle of an eye The afternoon came by The sun shone brightly Time to work Time to earn Time to put learning into practice Tick tock went the clock And the night showed up Oh night! A time to rest And time to reap What have I achieved? I asked myself The light of the sun, moon and stars Are all gone dim before my eyes What a seasonal change! My once strong arms are trembling My legs are now weak My teeth are now few Even the sounds i used to enjoy I hear them no more My hair has turned white Like almond blossoms Oh! i'm soon going to my final resting place But rejoice thou young man You are yet in your morning season Be strong, learn and work For the night cometh When no man can work Alice Asuquo

BARE-FEET TO HIGH HEELS

With speed like that of a thunder clap The din of soft little bare-feet Veered into sounds of sharp high heels hmmm, she's growing into a woman With tempo likened to that of a lightening bolt She's now grown from pampers Into puberty, now with sanitary pads Yeah! she's welcome to the world of womanhood With speed like that of light She's dispatched from the train of childhood Now struggling with self-discovery in adulthood Indeed these are grand steps into womanhood From a wild, mischievous and shabby look Into a face adorned with cosmetics and youthful radiance The outside beauty is sure but the inside Why am i who i am? she ponders Why do i feel vulnerable and incomplete, she ponders Or am i just a beautiful container made by my maker? Maybe  i was coupled with a purpose and and qualities altogether A woman like Rebecca i can be Cos though pretty yet lived a life of purity Not like our beautiful Racheal Oh! very attractive but yet futive A...
