A POEM FOR CHRISTMAS

Amidst skyscrapers and mansions All you choose was a manger A lowly and poor stable So as to reach the disable and able An everlasting show of humility You came all the way from royalty An aristocratic dynasty   It is Christmas time Filled with lots of chime From home to home The carols play Joy to the world The Lord is come It is Christmas season But let's not forget the reason It is not about the chicken Well prepared and seasoned in the kitchen It is time to emulate Jesus His love and humility Years ago, He was born in a manger But today, He seeks to be born in your heart Is there any room for him? He accepted the manger When there was no room for Him in the inn Give Him a room in your heart Jesus loves you!  MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! 🎄🎄🎄 Alice Asuquo

FORMERLY USELESS

FORMERLY USELESS In this journey of life, we get to hear about or meet people who are being considered as bad examples. People often give advice to others and say, 'do not be this or that person'  Lydia grew up in a toxic environment, being born out of wedlock and her naive mother could not really give her the upbringing she deserved. She was forced to navigate her way through life all alone. Often times, people referred to her as a useless child. She lived a life without sense of purpose till the day she was led to Jesus and her life experienced a turn around for good. You may be in a situation where people have looked at your life and termed you 'useless'. The good news is that even though you are a cultist, a thief, a fornicator, an adulterer or the likes, Jesus is ready to change your story. Onesimus was reintroduced to Philemon, his slave master urging him to take him back stating that ''Formerly he was useless to you but now he has become usef

STACCATO

I hear your cries A thousand voices loud You laugh in mockery of your wounded prey Swift like a meteor from yonder Your victim hits the ground Before he sees you coming Your touch is unforgiving Revealing the contents of the bowel Your kiss is remorseless Bursting open the temples Your embrace, cold Like the python's romance The heat of many fires This soil is soiled red Blood of the inumerable slain You are drunk to stupor You can't get over the deadly hangover Yet you're not satisfied You are the beast that consumes it's master Untameable, elusive, ravenous Your staccato deafens the soul, disorients the mind Littering the streets with minced flesh and scattered toes The trigger has been pulled A beast released from its chambers Catching the worm like an early bird Too late to return home ©Bentem Joseph 221745AJun19.

AFRICAN CHILDREN

*African children* Africa is our continent Our glory is obvious and imminent More than just Geography Africa is where I am made free  Africa is many tribes and tongues Many Lives and songs Yet we are one The young, the old and the unborn Our challenges, we can't number But through each one We rise up stronger The vicissitudes of life Suffering, crises, strifes They Try to make us bend Yet we always mend and blend We are African children Through the sun and rain We remain Strong, resilient, bold and creative We are active and proactive Yes we are black We don't lack We don't slack We are tough front and back And we don't crack Written by: Alice Asuquo Edited by: Joseph Bentem

JUST FOR YOUR SAKE

He lived a life so sinless and spotless Yet He died for the sins of the world Though He had the power to resist death Accepted to die for all His crown, He exchanged for thorns His fame was exchanged for shame His throne, He left for the tomb His precious life, He gave up on the cross Like a plant growing on dry ground He had no beauty to be desired From Him they hid their faces But for your transgressions, He was wounded For your iniquities, He was bruised Like a lamb brought to the slaughter And a sheep taken to her shearers He openeth  not His mouth Friends denied Him His father forsook Him A companion betrayed Him And enemies killed Him JUST FOR YOUR SAKE (Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends... Jn. 15:13) Happy Easter!!! Alice Asuquo

FOR THE SECURITY OF HIS COUNTRY

Many were called Few were chosen Few whose hearts have become frozen Losing it's frail, hardened, brazen At the command, he moves Without thinking Acts without asking And stands without moving Only a few survive the bruising Of drills, camps, guards, rifle greasing Regimentation and it's trouble Ever increasing He trained to fire without missing Fight without tiring And advance without withdrawing There's no giving up, no giving in Until 'Mission Accomplished' There's no easing He's risen before the sun is risen For no reason The soldier's loyalty is never ending In peace and war time, he's defending The security of his nation Has become his personal burden (Dedicated to those in the military and para-military) Bentem Joseph
